NC State earns portal commitment from Ja'Had Carter
Former Ohio State S Ja’Had Carter has committed to NC State out of the transfer portal.
Carter made his commitment to the Wolfpack official with a post on social media on Monday.
“Committed #1Pack1Goal,” Carter wrote on Twitter.
Carter spent last season with the Buckeyes after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Syracuse. That leaves him with one year of eligibility left to spend this season in Raleigh.
Carter has appeared in 39 games between his two programs over his four years so far. In those games, he has totaled 141 tackles, 3.5 being for loss, along with seven deflections, five interceptions, and two forced fumbles with one recovery that led to a 90-yard touchdown.
Most of that production came during his career with the Orange. In his lone season in Columbus, Carter posted just five tackles in his eight outings.
Carter, a native of Richmond, Virginia, played high school football at Jireh Prep as part of the 2019 class.
After his three seasons at Syracuse, Carter committed to Ohio State on January 3rd, 2023. After his second spring with the Buckeyes, he re-entered the portal for a consecutive offseason during the spring window on April 28th. Now, just over two weeks later, he has made his way back to the ACC in choosing NC State.

By entering the portal, Carter was one of 26 players to leave Ohio State this offseason. A handful of those departed following spring practice with him being among them.
With this addition, NC State has brought in the No. 7 overall class per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. The group consists of 15 transfers, including three from the past week in a fellow safety in Kerry Martin (Akron) along with DL Chazz Wallace (Colorado). That brings the total number of defensive addition pickups in the portal. They join four more for the secondary with a pair of corners in Corey Coley Jr. (Maryland) and Devon Marshall (Villanova) along with two more safeties in Tamarcus Cooley (Maryland) and Donovan Kaufman (Auburn).
These arrive after the Wolfpack lost 24 transfer to the portal during the offseason. Nine of those were from the defense with four coming from the secondary. S Jakeen Harris went to an in-state rival in North Carolina while a trio of corners in Cecil Powell (Troy), Nate Evans (Delaware), and Chris Scott all transferred too.
