NC State men’s basketball guard Marcus Hill has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He averaged 11.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Wolfpack over the course of the 2024-25 season.

Hill played high school basketball at the Rockford Christian Schools (Rockford, IL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 197 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Prior to his time in Raleigh, Hill played for Bowling Green. He averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Eagles during the 2023-24 season. Those are some impressive numbers, and NC State would’ve loved to see him stick around and try to get back to that level with the Wolfpack next season.

Regardless, the ACC program is headed in a different direction, with former McNeese State head coach Will Wade as their new leader. The future is bright for NC State, but Marcus Hill won’t be a part of it, as he’ll be moving in a different direction for the 2025-26 season.

More on the NC State Wolfpack

Reports began to surface connecting Wade to NC State prior to the NCAA Tournament, after the firing of Kevin KeattsJeff Goodman of The Field Of 68 relayed the interest of the Wolfpack in the coach, adding their administration met with Wade. Now, he’ll be heading to Raleigh for the 2025-26 season and beyond.

Prior to his time with the Cowboys, Wade was the in-charge of the LSU Tigers for five seasons, and the VCU Rams for two before that. From a strictly basketball perspective, Wade is a phenomenal replacement for Keatts. However, he comes with his fair share of baggage, as he was suspended and dealt with a myriad of issues with the NCAA over the last decade.

All in all, Wade has been tremendous since taking over McNeese State in 2023. He’s amassed a 49–8 record, while winning both the conference regular season and conference tournament championships in both his seasons with the program. This comes after he went 105–51 over five seasons at LSU, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2019.

As for NC State, it’s been a rollercoaster of a past 365 days. Keatts led the Wolfpack to the Final Four in a shocking run last season, but couldn’t bring that success beyond that. This season, the team finished the season 12-19 overall, and 5-15 in ACC play. They ended their crusade losing three of their last four games.

Keatts finished his time in Raleigh with a record of 151-113, including a 69-84 record against conference opponents. He made three NCAA Tournaments during his time as head coach.
