NC State quarterback Devin Leary headed straight to the locker room after taking a big hit midway through the third quarter of the Wolfpack’s game against Florida State on Saturday night.

Leary stayed for an extended period of time before walking immediately to the locker room. As he walked off, Leary appeared to hold or pull at his jersey around his throwing shoulder as trainers supported his throwing arm, which he kept high and tight to his body.

Senior Jack Chambers entered and took over as quarterback as the Wolfpack tried to complete a home comeback against the Seminoles. At the time of the injury, NC State trailed Florida State, 17-10. Chambers led a field goal drive in immediate relief.

Leary was 10-for-22 for 130 yards with one touchdown and an interception when he went out.

He later reemerged from the locker room with his right arm in a sling and obviously did not return.

NC State lost another player in the second half when Shyheim Battle was ejected for targeting

NC State sophomore cornerback Shyheim Battle was ejected for targeting late in the fourth quarter as the Wolfpack tried to cling to a two-point lead against Florida State. Because the ejection happened in the second half, Battle will miss the first half of NC State’s next game.

Battle was came down to make a play on a swing pass intended for FSU’s Winston Wright. He dropped his head and made forcible contact to the head and neck area of Wright while using the crown of his own helmet.

The penalty looked like it was going to cost the Wolfpack the game. It put Florida State on the edge of field goal range when the Seminoles only needed three points to win.

FSU was bleeding the clock down and getting closer when they called a pass. Quarterback Jordan Travis dropped back and threw a perplexing pass that was ultimately intercepted in the endzone by Devan Boykin.

One first down later, NC State got the win, 19-17.
