WATCH: North Carolina State head coach makes fiery statement about the NCAA
North Carolina State football head coach Dave Doeren was not thrilled that their Holiday Bowl game against UCLA was canceled. And to make matters worse, to Doeren, the game is not being ruled as a forfeit by the Bruins.
Visibly upset about the NCAA decision to not rule it a forfeit, the Wolfpack head coach had this to say about the organization.
“The NCAA stands for No Clue At All in my opinion. I don’t really care what they say about it.”
Doeren went on to further his point with this interview with 247 Sports Pack Pride on Wednesday.
As much as this is an issue about principle for the North Carolina State head football coach, it also carries a heavy financial punch to his wallet. According to Stewart Mandel, canceling the game and not counting it as a forfeit for UCLA carries a 50k impact for Doeren. Had the game been counted as a forfeit, the Wolfpack would be credited one win bringing their total to 10 on the season. Since it is not, they stay at nine wins, which, per Doeren’s contract, outs the football coach of $50,000.
How Doeren and NC State got here
As first reported by FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman, Tuesday evening’s San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl between NC State football and UCLA has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Bruins program.

The search for a replacement for UCLA in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl for NC State football has ended without success, and with it the Wolfpack’s season is over.
“After exhausting every possibility and contacting numerous schools personally and through the Holiday Bowl, we have no other option than to end our season,” NC State director of athletics Boo Corrigan said. “As disappointing as this stunning turn of events was, we must not let it diminish the accomplishments of our 2021 football team or forget the moments of joy that they brought us.
UCLA confirmed the news shortly after 3:30 p.m. eastern time, less than five hours before the scheduled kickoff at 8 p.m.
Per Feldman, UCLA was down to two interior defensive linemen for the Holiday Bowl before further COVID related issues arose on game day.
