North Carolina State guard enters the transfer portal
According to Matt Zenitz of On3, North Carolina State Wolfpack guard Cam Hayes has entered the transfer portal. Spending the past two seasons with the basketball program, Hayes has started 27 games during his time in Raleigh.
Hayes was the fifth-leading scorer for North Carolina State this season, averaging seven points per game. He was able to tack on 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing around 20 minutes a night. Being the starting point guard for the Wolfpack, Hayes could be entering the portal for a bigger offensive role.
A member of the 2020 recruiting class, Hayes was a four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was the No. 2 prospect in the state of North Carolina and nationally ranked at No. 59.
Coming out of high school, Hayes received offers from programs such as Clemson, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. He could be a hot commodity coming out of the transfer portal, with a good point guard on the move.

Athletic director Boo Corrigan commented as to why Keatts will be back next year, saying Keatts earned the right to do so. He also said there are some elements that have hampered the head coach and cited non-basketball reasons as a positive point as well.
“The play will come,” Corrigan said. “I believe in what Kevin is and who Kevin is from a basketball coaching standpoint and I think he’s earned the right to (coach).
“With everything that’s gone on since he’s been here,” Corrigan said. “With the NCAA and the injuries, it’s not an excuse, but I think the way he’s performed across the board — academically and socially, and what he’s done with the program, increasing graduation rates — that needs to be considered.”
Keatts has only made one NCAA Tournament during his time with North Carolina State, coming during his first season in charge. The Wolfpack are not on track to make the postseason this year, currently sporting an 11-18 overall record and 4-14 in the ACC — sitting second to last in the conference, just behind Georgia Tech on a tiebreaker.
