Payton Wilson asks NC State fans not to boo Brennan Armstrong after benching
Quarterback Brennan Armstrong transferred to NC State to be the starting quarterback. However, he was sent to the bench ahead of the Marshall game amid struggles. In his place, MJ Morris started against Marshall, winning amid some inconsistent play.
Star NC State linebacker Payton Wilson knows that this can be frustrating for fans. However, he doesn’t want to see them take it out on Brennan Armstrong and boo him now that he’s moved to the bench.
“So, I love Wolfpack Nation to death, do not get me wrong. I love them to death,” Payton Wilson said. “They are the best fans in the country and I love MJ to death and he played some of the best ball from a quarterback that I’ve seen at this school today, but we’ve got to stop booing Brennan.”
At one point in the game against Marshall, Brennan Armstrong entered the game to a chorus of boos from fans. That’s what Wilson is taking exception to when he feels that shouldn’t be the approach for someone who means a lot to the team.
“He is hard-nosed. He’s a great person. Doesn’t matter. Just imagine if that was your kid out there on that field in front of 70,000. Let’s get behind him Wolfpack Nation when he’s in there. He’s a good-hearted kid, loves God, does nothing but pat everybody on the back and play hard for us every single day,” Wilson said.
“So, continue to uplift him Wolfpack Nation. I love y’all.”
This season, Brennan Armstrong is completing just 58.8 percent of passes for 971 yards and five touchdowns. He’s done this while throwing six interceptions. His struggles have come as the entire offense has struggled in the first half of the season.

Head coach Dave Doeren turned to MJ Morris, largely, in the hope that he can spark that offense.
“Ever since he’s been here he’s come to practice with great energy, he’s always done that,” Doeren said. “And so each week since Coach Anae’s got here you can see him growing in the offense, that part is now second thought to him. In the spring he was learning it, now he knows it.”
Dave Doeren reveals how Brennan Armstrong has handled decision to start MJ Morris
After making the decision to bench Brennan Armstrong, Dave Doeren shared how he handled the decision.
“So, he handled it as well as you could hope and you’ll see that,” Doeren said. “You’ll see him leading. He’ll be on the sidelines cheering guys on throughout the game, and if he’s needed to play, he’s gonna play. He’ll come in and play hard.”
