Robert Dillingham, a 6-foot-1 point guard out of Charlotte (N.C.) Donda Academy has committed to NC State basketball for the class of 2023, a source told On3.

Dillingham is the No. 11 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is ranked as the No. 3 point guard and the No. 1 player in North Carolina.

NC State was able to beat out the likes of Kentucky, Kansas, LSU, and Memphis. He also received offers from Auburn, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, amongst others.

Robert Dillingham, a North Carolina native, is the Wolfpack’s second highest-ranked commit within the modern recruiting era, only behind Dennis Smith Jr.

A whirlwind recruitment

Robert Dillingham has had an interesting recruitment, to say the least.

At first, North Carolina was the leader. Then, there were whispers that Memphis could be the favorite, followed by LSU emerging as a serious contender. After Dillingham’s trip to Kentucky, the Wildcats emerged as the heavy favorite and many thought he was a lock to UK. In fact, there was heavy speculation that Dillingham silently committed to the Wildcats.

So… what happened and why didn’t Kentucky land Dillingham?
