Shawn Phillips on why he chose NC State
“When I first got on campus for my official visit to when I left… the love was just real,” Phillips said. “The head coach, Coach (Kevin) Keatts, everything he was saying to me was all real. During Peach Jam, he and his staff were at every game, front row, showing love. They were always consistent, texting me and calling me every day. Their starting big is going to the draft after this season. So Coach Keatts promised me a starting spot. They obviously like to play around their bigs.”
Phillips’ choice was not clear at first
“I for sure thought I was going to Ohio State, like during my sophomore year,” Phillips said. “They were recruiting me heavy, super heavy. They used to have me up for games almost every week. Their head coach used to call me, FaceTime me all the time.”
