What is NC State getting in 4-star C Isaiah Miranda
NC State got a huge boost on Wednesday night when four-star Isaiah Miranda decided to commit to the Wolfpack and announced he would enroll early. The 7-foot-1 center, originally from Rhode Island, was in the middle of a post-graduate year at Los Angeles (CA) So Cal Academy.
This commitment comes the day after starting NC State center Dusan Mahoric went down against Coppin State. As On3 reported several days ago, the plan was for Miranda to enroll early after the first semester ended.
What is NC State getting with Miranda?
Isaiah Miranda has a lot of physical tools. He is a fluid and explosive athlete. He can move his feet laterally and has the explosive pop to get well above the rim vertically. The four-star will need to continue adding strength, especially to his core and base, but he has a frame that should take well to a college weight program.
Miranda has touch that extends well beyond the three-point line. While the shot is inconsistent, that has more to do with the footwork and the load than the actual release. He is at his best when catching the ball off movement, getting downhill toward the rim. However, he can often find himself drifting and favoring the jump shot.

The interesting part of Miranda’s recruitment is that he will be eligible for the 2023 NBA Draft. That has been the play with him for a while. Going the college route will help him grow and continue developing his game, and playing in the ACC will allow him to play against other potential first-round draft picks.
The tools are there for Miranda; physically, there are few who can do what he can do. Miranda grew a number of inches over the last couple of years and is still growing into his frame. The 7-footer will need to continue tightening his overall skill set up and getting stronger.
It is always hard to jump in, in the middle of the season. However, there will be ample playing time available. With ACC league play starting this month, this one will be interesting to watch. NC State will next play Miami on December 10.
