Anthony Grant addresses his potential role in Nebraska's offense in 2023
Nebraska running back Anthony Grant is excited about the role he’s expected to play in the offense this season. With head coach Matt Rhule entering his first season and new offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield installing his offense, Grant is pleased with the role he’s carving out.
It’s not that he had a minor part in the Nebraska offense a year. But Grant thinks this new role, and the offense as a whole, could be a big step forward as the Cornhuskers push to turn a bunch of close losses a year ago into wins this time around.
“I’m not going to say last year wasn’t a big role for me or a big year for me. But I feel like this year, this year I have that — I have that leeway to flip everything around. I’m talking about, as far as where we’re sitting at with wins and losses. I really feel like I can really flip it around for us this year. I really feel like my role is more this year,” Grant said.
Grant led all Nebraska ball carriers with 218 carries in 2022, going for 915 yards and six touchdowns. He also finished fourth on the team with 18 receptions, taking them for just 104 yards and no scores.
As the returning lead back in terms of usage and production, Grant’s role isn’t exactly going to change in terms of the title or responsibilities — he’ll be the lead back for Nebraska — he does think he’s going to have a chance to make a bigger impact in terms how the Cornhuskers perform in the win column.

“I feel like a lot is expected from me. I can really do something big this year, I can really do something special this year,” Grant said.
Grant is demanding more consistency from himself this season
He’s been working to hone his game all offseason, intent on taking the next step in 2023 as the Rhule era gets underway and optimism abounds with a new regime in town.
“This offseason I’ve just been really just working on my consistency,” Grant said. “Really just protecting my head, trying to just get better in the position room as a whole. Trying to just perfect my craft in any way that I can and really just working on being more consistent.”
Grant became the first Nebraska runner to have five 100-yard rushing games in a season since Devine Ozigbo in 2018.
