Nebraska AD Trev Alberts: Resources won't be an impediment
Nebraska suffered another disappointing defeat in Week 2, falling 45-42 to Georgia Southern and dropping to 1-2 on the season. On Sunday, the Cornhuskers decided to move on from head coach Scott Frost and fired him. With Nebraska now engaged in a national search for a new head coach, athletic director Trev Alberts made it clear that resources will not be any kind of impediment.
Alberts was asked in a press conference on Sunday how Nebraska will be able to compete with the high salaries and big deals being handed out across the nation among head coaches. He made it clear that Nebraska is willing and able to pay what they need to in order to get the coach they want to lead the program.
“Yeah, I mean I’m well aware of where the market has shifted in terms of compensation,” Alberts said. “At a place like Nebraska, we’re blessed to be in a position to meet market demand. Certainly resources won’t be an impediment towards hiring the type of coach that we want to lead the Husker program.”
Nebraska was willing to pay a hefty price to move on from Frost as the team’s head coach, as the Huskers paid him his full $15 million buyout. If Nebraska would have waited until Oct. 1 or later, Frost only would have been owed half of that $15 million buyout.
Mickey Joseph will serve as Nebraska’s interim head coach as the search moves forward throughout the remainder of the 2022 season.
Names have already emerged for Nebraska’s search for a new coach
Shortly following Frost’s dismissal as Nebraska’s head coach, plenty of names emerged as possible candidates.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel listed 15 names to watch in the Huskers’ search, including 12 current head coaches and three current coordinators. The coordinators were Alabama‘s Bill O’Brien, Wisconsin‘s Jim Leonhard and USC‘s Alex Grinch.
The head coaches that made Thamel’s list were Matt Campbell, Mark Stoops, Dave Aranda, Lance Leipold, PJ Fleck, Chris Klieman, Dave Doeren, Sam Pittman, Matt Entz, Bret Bielema, Jamey Chadwell and Troy Calhoun.
Matt Campbell might be viewed as the favorite right now, as a report suggested that the Iowa State coach could be the primary target at this time for Alberts and Nebraska.
Things don’t get any easier for Nebraska, as the Huskers face off against No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday at 12 noon ET.
