The Nebraska Cornhuskers have named a guest speaker to headline the Nebraska Football coaches clinic on April 5th and 6th, with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick set to headline the event. Nebraska announced the news on social media.

Belichick won six Super Bowls as the head coach of the New England Patriots between 2000 and 2023. During that time, he compiled a 266-121 record and won the AFC East 17 different times. He also acted as the team’s de facto general manager. Despite that, when he and the Patriots parted ways at the end of the season, he did not get another head coaching opportunity.

A future Hall of Famer, Bill Belichick he was a three-time NFL Coach of the Year in New England. He was also a member of the NFL’s 2000s and 2010s All-Decade teams. On top of that, Belichick holds several coaching records, including most playoff wins as a head coach, with 31, and most Super Bowl appearances as a head coach, with nine.

Prior to his time in New England, Belichick also spent time with the Cleveland Browns as their head coach. He was also the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, where he won another two Super Bowls alongside head coach Bill Parcells. In total, he has coached in the NFL in every season since 1975.

It’s an interesting connection between Bill Belichick and the Nebraska coaching staff. Matt Rhule has never worked on a Bill Belichick staff. However, the two have completed head-to-head in the NFL. In 2021, New England beat Rhule’s Carolina Panthers. The next season, during joint practices ahead of a preseason game, the two teams got chippy and fought.

In many ways, this is an opportunity that Bill Belichick likely wouldn’t have been able to have if he still had a head coaching job. Whether he and New England stuck together or he landed a new job, the NFL Draft is only a couple of weeks after the clinic. With only so much time before the draft, he would likely have been too busy preparing for it.

This particular coaches clinic on April 5th and 6th will be the first of several different coaches clinics that Matt Rhule and the Nebraska coaching staff are going to be running this offseason. As of now, those camps are mostly scheduled for the month of June.

The camp itself will be held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. Registration for the event costs $50 and you must be at least 18 years old to attend.
