Billy Kemp: Nebraska can be the best offense in the nation
There are high hopes, and then there’s this. On Monday, Nebraska wide receiver Billy Kemp made an ambitious statement about Nebraska’s upcoming season.
“I feel like we can be the best offense in the nation. Honestly, we have weapons. We have everything we need. We have the coaches. We have the players. It’s just on us to put it together,” Kemp said during a press conference.
It didn’t take long for Kemp to gain immense confidence in the Cornhuskers. Kemp transferred to Nebraska this offseason after playing five seasons at Virginia, appearing in 50 games and making 25 starts.
Kemp etched his name in the Virginia history books. The 5-foot-9 WR is fourth on the Cavaliers’ career receptions list and 10th in career receiving yards. In total, Kemp caught 192 passes for 1,774 yards while in Richmond.
Although Kemp’s confidence in Nebraska’s offense would have seemed absurd just nine months ago, it’s no longer laughable. With Matt Rhule leading the charge as head coach, the program is nearly unrecognizable.
New Nebraska, new results
Nebraska lost 25 players to the transfer portal in 2023, while bringing in 14 fresh faces. However, the real overhaul happened in the staff department. Along with Rhule, Nebraska has a new offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator.

Obviously, for Kemp’s claim, OC Marcus Satterfield holds the most weight. Before joining the Cornhuskers, Satterfield was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at South Carolina in 2021 and 2022.
Satterfield’s offense posted the third-most passing yards in school history (3,380), the fourth-most points (418) and the sixth-most total yards (4,925) in 2022. Not laughing now. Satterfield has a vision for his offense.
“We’re going to be a pro-style offense. We actually get in a huddle, which is kind of taboo this days. We’re going to get in a huddle and call football plays. We’re going to use tight ends. We’re going to use a fullback. We’re going to run the football. The biggest success in the Big Ten is you’ve got the able to run the football because you’re going to play some interesting weather games. You can’t just throw the football all over the field,” Satterfield said in his introductory press conference.
Perhaps Kemp was onto somethings. Fans will witness Nebraska’s revamped offense on Aug. 31 when the Cornhuskers take on Minnesota in their season opener.
