Bob Stoops denies having interest in open Nebraska job
Nebraska fans — you can cross at least one name off your wishlist. The last name Stoops has been involved early with the coaching search, with Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops being linked. However, it was Bob Stoops who recently said he did not want to be the next man to run the Cornhuskers’ program.
Stoops confirmed he would not have an interest in the Nebraska job on Tuesday. Although he had high praise for the Cornhuskers and even their fans, the legendary Oklahoma head coach will not be heading to Lincoln for anything but Saturday’s contest anytime soon.
“No one is looking for me to have to say it but no,” Stoops said on his YouTube channel. “That is not a job that I am going to be interested in. I think it’s a heck of a job, great job. They got an incredible following. So, somebody will be lucky to have that great job but that won’t be me.”
Although Stoops stepped away from the Oklahoma program after the 2016 season, he has never fully stepped away from coaching. He spent some time in 2020 as the head coach of the Dallas Renegades in the XFL. The league will come back in 2023, where Stoops will once again take over the Dallas franchise.

Stoops also came back when the Oklahoma program needed someone to step up. Lincoln Riley left in favor of the USC job but the Sooners still had an Alamo Bowl to appear in. He once again led a victory, dominating Oregon before Brent Venables took over.
When Stoops was wearing Oklahoma colors, he got to face off against Nebraska eight times. He won six of those, including the 2010 Big 12 championship game. Stoops enjoyed being on the Sooners’ side of the rivalry and will not be trading places anytime soon.
