Brice Williams injury update: Fred Hoiberg reveals concern level over Nebraska guard
Following Nebraska’s third consecutive loss coming against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Tuesday, Fred Hoiberg shared some injury news regarding Cornhuskers guard Brice Williams.
A three-point loss sent Nebraska to 12-5 on the season, and Williams was dealing with an injury throughout the contest, having to leave during it, but he did return later in the game. Speaking with the media, Hoiberg didn’t seem too concerned with how one of his star players will deal with his newfound ailment.
“I think he’s okay,” Hoiberg said regarding Williams, via his postgame press conference. “He got hit in the mouth early in the game. You know, a doctor checked him out and he was fine. It looked like his neck had a little stinger to it. So, we’ll know more in the morning.”
Evidently, Hoiberg isn’t making a mountain out of a mole hill with Williams. The guard still scored 21 points against Rutgers, he’s just annoyed that it all came in a losing effort for the Cornhuskers on Tuesday.
At 12-5, the season is far from lost for Fred Hoiberg and company. The Cornhuskers will be back in action this weekend, as they’ll take a trip to play the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday.

More on Brice Williams, Nebraska Cornhuskers
Moreover, Fred Hoiberg has taken the term “moral victories” to a whole other level with the grading system he employs at Nebraska. The Cornhuskers coach explained his interesting way of judging away games vs. home games.
“Our formula is, if we win at home, it’s a zero,” Hoiberg said, prior to Tuesday’s showdown. “If you lose on the road, it’s a zero. If you lose at home, it’s a minus-one. If you win on the road, it’s a plus-one. We’re still even right now. So it’s not time to panic.”
All told, Hoiberg is in his sixth season as the Nebraska coach and led the Cornhuskers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 2024. They also brought back many of the players that helped them get there, such as the aforementioned Brice Williams, Juwan Gary and Rollie Worster.
With that in mind, this is a veteran squad that should be able to weather the storm of a few losses and get back on track. However, they can’t wait too much longer to get their season under control, as they’ll want to avoid spiraling.
