Brice Williams on Nebraska's offense: 'It's going to be tough for teams to guard us'
New Nebraska guard Brice Williams is still getting adjusted to his new surroundings since recently transferring from Charlotte. But the graduate transfer is certain about one thing: He’s a fan of the offense he’ll be playing in.
Fred Hoiberg’s Nebraska teams have not been shy from pushing pace and shooting from 3 as they want to establish an identity for a free-moving offense. It seems the 2023-24 squad will not be any kind of exception to that.
“It’s free flowing. It’s fast paced. It’s hard to guard when all the players are on the same page. It’s going to be tough for teams to guard us this year. With our scoring, with our shooting, with our passing — we’re really unselfish,” Williams said.
Williams, in his third season at Charlotte in 2022-23, averaged a career-high 13.8 points per game while appearing in 36 contests. He’s got a particular knack for shooting from deep, making 39.5% of his career 3-point attempts.
He seems like a natural fit for the Cornhuskers mode of playing, and based on his early evaluations, Williams is quickly finding comfort amid his new setting.
Williams might be getting a few more running mates, according to Hoiberg
Hoiberg has one scholarship spot left open on his roster for the 2023-24 season. How he fills that spot, if at all, is still currently being figured out.

One thing Nebraska hasn’t stopped doing, Hoiberg said, is looking for a player to take in from the transfer portal or overseas but there is no guarantee that happens.
“We’re still looking,” Hoiberg said during a Monday media availability. “I don’t know if anything will happen. Obviously, there were some things at the end of last year, some things popped, and it’s nice to have that open in case somebody does hit the transfer portal late or we’re continuing to track international players as well. But it’s got to be the right guy, so we’ll be patient with it.”
Right now, the team is focused on their overseas trip to Spain that starts at the end of the week.
The team will play three games against local Spanish outfits in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. But the Cornhuskers will be down four players for the trip in Josiah Allick, Juwan Gary, Blaise Keita and Sam Hoiberg.
“We’re going over there very short handed,” Hoiberg said. “These trips to me, it’s all about bonding. It’s all about chemistry, opportunity to go over to a beautiful country and really learn a lot about their culture. And we’ve got a lot of sightseeing things that we will do over there. [I’m] just looking forward to getting our guys over there on a trip so they can really spend a lot of quality time together.”
