4-star TE Carter Nelson commits to Nebraska Cornhuskers
Ainsworth (Neb.) four-star tight end Carter Nelson exploded on the scene as a last year picking up offers from every major Power Five program in the country. While he could have gone anywhere, Nelson’s decided that it’s best to stay home.
Nelson committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers Wednesday afternoon. He chose the Cornhuskers over Georgia, Notre Dame and Penn State.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is the No. 57 overall prospect and No. 3 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Nebraska.
Nelson has visited Nebraska multiple times throughout his recruitment. He was most recently in Lincoln on June 23 for an official visit.
“Nebraska was by to see me today,” Nelson told Bryan Munson of Husker Online on Dec. 5. “They told me they would be out to see me every week and every time they can.”
“I would say that it felt different,” he added about one of his visits to Lincoln. “It was a fun trip. The coaches just made everyone feel at home.”

Carter Nelson currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $125K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
Nelson another win for Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers
Matt Rhule came to Lincoln last November and in a short time helped Nebraska secure a top 30 class.
Landing one of his top priority targets in Nelson and keeping him home, Nebraska is on pace to finish well ahead of the 2023 class and with one of their best classes in the last decade.
Nelson is currently the highest-ranked player in Nebraska’s 2024 group and their 21st commitment overall. The last two weeks has been particularly kind to Rhule and the Cornhuskers as Nelson was their 12th commitment since June 18.
Rhule has also done well keeping state’s top players home.
Of the top 10 players in Nebraska, five have now committed to the Cornhuskers and two more are trending favorably to them. They hold pledges from the state’s top four prospects as well.
