WATCH: Casey Thompson connects with Trey Palmer for longest touchdown allowed by Iowa this season
Nebraska didn’t waste a lot of time getting going on offense against Iowa. After a missed field goal on their opening drive, the Cornhuskers got on the board in a big way on their next sequence.
Casey Thompson completed a pass Trey Palmer, who took it to the house for an 87-yard touchdown to put Nebraska on the board 7-0 over the Hawkeyes. That’s the longest play the Iowa defense has allowed all season, and it will make the journey to a Big Ten West title tougher.
The Hawkeyes can clinch a division title with a win over Nebraska, but a loss would open the door for either Illinois or Purdue to punch a ticket to the Big Ten Championship.

Iowa is already shorthanded on defense, losing star defensive back Cooper DeJean to an injury in the first quarter, and Palmer was able to exploit that hole in the secondary on his touchdown.
Report: Nebraska has ‘zeroed in’ on Matt Rhule as its next head coach
Nebraska was the first team to get the coaching carousel going this season after the firing of Scott Frost. Now, the Cornhuskers seem to be the first team on the ride to have a new coach named.

That’s because, per Chris Low of ESPN, Nebraska has ‘zeroed in’ on Matt Rhule to be the program’s next head coach. The goal for both sides is to have a deal in place ‘in the coming days.’
Rhule just spent the last two-plus seasons with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. He was relieved earlier this season, though, after posting just an 11-27 record. That came after accomplishing two rebuilding jobs at Temple and Baylor in his seven seasons in college football between 2013 and 2019.
Nebraska fired Frost three games into the season following a 1-2 start, including a 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern. That was the final nail in the coffin of his 16-31 record over his five years in Lincoln. Mickey Joseph then took over as the program’s interim head coach and has led them to a 2-6 record since.
