Casey Thompson reveals he and Trey Palmer used week 0 as motivation in unique way
Week 0 didn’t go the way that Nebraska had hoped, blowing a lead to Big Ten West rival Northwestern and losing in Ireland. The Cornhuskers didn’t have time to lick their wounds, though, as Nebraska had a Week 1 game too. Instead, quarterback Casey Thompson and company needed to find motivation to move forward this season.
While speaking to the media, Casey Thompson explained how he and wide receiver Trey Palmer were about to use Week 0 as a unique form of motivation.
“I was very happy and glad that Trey went up and got that ball,” Casey Thompson said in reference to a play during the North Dakota game.

“You know, we both said that we owe each other from the last game because he had a couple drops, I missed him a couple of times. So, he really went up in the air and attacked the ball at its highest point. That was a really good play and that ended up extending our drive. So, that was a big play that he had.”
“I mean, that was coming off of first and second down where I took a couple hits and like I said, the targeting call that they overturned, but it was really good to see Trey go up and get that ball and he’s been working hard at practice and after practice–getting some extra catches in and get on the jug machine. So, that was a big play for us and we ended up going down to score, which ended up putting the game away,” Casey Thompson concluded.

Intel on potential head coaching moves
Both Casey Thompson and Trey Palmer are transfers who came into the program to help revitalize the Nebraska offense.
Casey Thompson responded to a challenge from Scott Frost
Recently, Nebraska coach Scott Frost made a challenge for his team. They’re not great, but they do have the potential to be great. His quarterback, Casey Thompson, responded to that challenge.
“We’re still getting to work together,” Casey Thompson said. “This is a team with 30 new players between freshmen and transfers. Half of the staff are new coaches. We’re still rotating guys on offense. New starters on defense, new starters on special teams. So it’s good for us to get the win today. I definitely think practice is one thing, but working together in the game is a whole different thing. Going to battle, going to war with guys you find out you can trust and lean on.”
