Chris Petersen sends message to Scott Frost, Nebraska after upset loss to Northwestern
Things just got a lot tougher for Nebraska coach Scott Frost after Saturday, when the Cornhuskers opened the 2022 season with a 31-28 loss to Northwestern.
Frost entered the year on the hot seat with a 15-29 record over four seasons in Lincoln, and the loss only turns up the heat. As discussions about Frost’s job are bound to take place in the coming weeks, FOX Sports analyst Chris Petersen believes the Cornhuskers must find a way to block out the noise.
“It’s circle the wagons, put the ear plugs in. It’s us against the world,” Petersen said in studio postgame. “That’s really what it is. Everybody’s gonna be hating on them and they’ve just got to rally together as a group.”

A former Boise State and Washington coach, Petersen’s perspective on the situation is certainly worth noting. In 14 years as a coach, he compiled a 147-38 overall record before stepping away as the Huskies coach in 2019.
Forst and Nebraska will look to turn things around with a Week 1 game against North Dakota on Sept. 3 back home in Lincoln.
Scott Frost addresses potentially stepping down at Nebraska
The questions were swirling about Scott Frost’s future at Nebraska entering the Cornhuskers’ Week 0 game against Northwestern. But after the Cornhuskers blew two 11-point leads in the upset loss, those questions got even louder.

In the press conference after the game, Frost was asked if he’d consider stepping down as head coach. He made his thoughts pretty clear in his answer.
“No, absolutely not,” Frost said, via Nebraska On3’s Steven Sipple. “I love Nebraska. I’m going to fight with these guys as long as I can.”
The loss — Frost’s seventh straight Big Ten defeat — was the 21st one-score loss of his tenure as head coach at his alma mater, dating back to 2018. That’s the worst mark in one-score games in FBS in that time, and it increases the amount of discussion about his future in Lincoln.
Nebraska now has to return to the U.S. for a Week 1 game against North Dakota on Sept. 3 back home in Lincoln.
