Contract details revealed for Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph
Friday, Nebraska revealed the details for interim head coach Mickey Joseph’s new contract, including his new salary. It features an interesting clause, too.
Joseph now makes an extra $33,350 per month as head coach in addition to his $600,000 salary as a full-time assistant. Additionally, if Nebraska decides to hire someone other than Joseph as head coach, his contract stipulates he’ll go back to his role as associate head coach and wide receivers coach.

Joseph would also get a bonus between $300,000 and $650,000 if Nebraska — somehow — made it to the College Football Playoff. If the Cornhuskers make the CFP, he’d get a $250,000 bonus and a $650,000 raise if Nebraska wins the national championship. A $100,000 bonus is on the table if the Cornhuskers win or share the Big Ten West title, as well as a $150,000 bump if they play in a non-CFP bowl game.
Joseph, 54, took over for Scott Frost following his firing Sept. 11. Since that’s when he started as interim head coach, his new salary was effective that day. His replacement as wide receivers coach, Mike Cassano, also got a $4,595 raise for his promotion.
College football insider provides background on reported three favorites in Nebraska coaching search
Nebraska made the decision to fire Scott Frost on Sept. 11, just a day after losing to Georgia Southern at home. Less than two weeks later and the coaching search has already progressed in a positive manner.

Bruce Feldman reported three candidates are standing out for athletic director Trev Alberts — Iowa State‘s Matt Campbell, Kansas‘ Lance Leipold, and Alabama OC Bill O’Brien. Feldman further explained why the Cornhuskers would be interested in those three.
Beginning with Campbell, the winning culture surrounding the Iowa State program is the main selling point for Alberts.
Campbell has been with the Cyclones for six complete seasons. Only one, his debut year, has resulted in a losing record. Additionally, in the last four NFL Drafts, seven Iowa State players have been selected — an incredible feat for the program.
However, Feldman did say there could be a hold-up in getting Campbell to Nebraska. The college football insider is not sure the Iowa State head coach would want to leave.
“I’m not sure Matt Campbell wants to make that move to Lincoln, Nebraska,” Feldman stated.
