Matt Rhule is the Cornhuskers’ coach that gets to work with Dylan Raiola. However, after his latest feat, Fred Hoiberg might want to check in with him in Lincoln.

Nebraska held the Husker Games, in place of a traditional spring game, on Saturday. Among the festivities was a passing game into a basketball hoop down in the end zone where, come his turn, Raiola swished it from almost midfield for a bucket probably worth more than three points.

Again, Nebraska is one of several programs that didn’t necessarily have a traditional spring game during this period. That comes with Rhule being one of the sport’s main advocates against them this year due to tampering. That has led to events like these where, while there’s football played, there’s not as much on display, regardless of if it’s on-air or not. In this case, the Cornhuskers took part in a dozen events with some related and some not to football.

Despite this bucket during the Quarterback Shootout, Raiola didn’t see any reps during the actual game because of that as the team’s starter for this fall. Neither did Jalyn Gramstad either as their expected backup. That left the snaps to Marcos Davila, TJ Lateef, Bode Sokup, and Luke Longval yesterday.

The next athletic year to come is still several weeks out with kickoff four months away while tip-off is at least six months from now. That gives Hoiberg plenty of time, though, to talk to Rhule and see if there’s a chance at Raiola being a dual-sport athlete in Lincoln based on this.

A look inside Nebraska Football’s Husker Games Scrimmage

Nebraska Football held the Husker Games at Memorial Stadium on April 26th. The event was highlighted by competitions and a scrimmage between the Huskers’ non-starters.

Different players participated in the “fastest man,” bench press, a tractor pull, kicking and punting contests, and much more. Six players, as well as former volleyball head coach John Cook, also participated in a roping competition. Beforehand, there was a scrimmage between Nebraska and Midland Women’s Flag Football clubs. In total, Nebraska played three quarters of football.
