Princewill Umanmielen discusses how he feels getting ready for first year at Nebraska
Princewill Umanmielen is another example of Matt Rhule hitting the state of Texas hard on the recruiting trail. The EDGE prospect out of Manor, TX finished as Nebraska’s second highest-ranked signee in the 2023 recruiting class, just behind Malachi Coleman. Expectations for Umanmielen will be high, hoping to make an immediate impact in Lincoln.
Spring practice was a good start, impressing in front of Husker Nation during the Red-White game. Umanmielen recorded four tackles, three tackles for a loss, and a sack. For somebody who had not been on campus for too long, it was an impressive display.
Now, the goal is to get ready for the 2023 season. Umanmielen “feels good” about the preparation after watching his brother doing something similar. Princely Umanmielen is entering his fourth season with the Florida Gators. Princewill will be hoping to follow in his footsteps.
“It feels good because I watched my brother do it,” Umanmielen said. “He’s at the University of Florida. So, it feels good following those steps and hopefully, I can get to lead.”
Princely Umanmielen broke out with Florida last season, having 39 tackles with 9.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. He is expected to be another key contributor for head coach Billy Napier this season in a crucial year.
Folks at Nebraska will be hoping the on-field success runs in the family.
Princewill Umanmielen played high school football at Manor (TX) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 228 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s Husker Online laid out four freshmen who will have the opportunity to make an impact in 2023 and Umanmielen was one of them. He is expected to be a force off the EDGE but there were also reps at the JACK linebacker position.
“I was eager,” Umanmielen said on arriving at Nebraska. “I ain’t come here just to sit on the bench. I’m trying to earn a role to play, earn a role to start.”
Umanmielen will have an opportunity right away to impress, with the Huskers beginning the season against Big Ten West foe Minnesota. The following week will be a trip to Colorado, reigniting an old-school rivalry.
Putting up similar numbers to the spring game would be welcomed and cement Umanmielen as a true contributor as a true freshman.
