Emmett Johnson isn’t leaving Nebraska after all. Just a few days after the Cornhuskers RB previously stated he planned to enter the transfer portal, he announced that he is returning for the 2025 season.

Johnson posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, where he stated his decision to come back to Lincoln for a fourth season.

Johnson had the best season of his college career in 2024 to finish second on Nebraska’s roster with 523 rushing yards. He also added 262 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns – one in the air and one on the ground.

Emmett Johnson played high school football at Minneapolis (Minn.) Academy of Holy Angels, where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 1,057 overall player from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He committed to Nebraska over offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Iowa and others. He would go on to redshirt during his true freshman season, appearing in four games.

Johnson put together three straight strong showings to close out the 2024 regular season. His biggest came against Wisconsin when he had 113 rushing yards and 85 receiving yards to help Nebraska get the victory to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016.

Last year in 2023, he finished with 90 carries for 411 yards and two touchdowns.
