Nebraska RB Emmett Johnson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3’s Pete Nakos. He was a key piece of the Cornhuskers rushing attack this past season.
Johnson was second on Nebraska’s roster with 523 rushing yards this season. He also added 262 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns – one in the air and one on the ground.

Johnson put together three straight strong showings to close out the regular season. His biggest came against Wisconsin when he had 113 rushing yards and 85 receiving yards to help Nebraska get the victory to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016.
Johnson spent three years in Nebraska, but took a redshirt as a freshman in 2022. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Emmett Johnson played high school football at Minneapolis (Minn.) Academy of Holy Angels, where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 1,057 overall player from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Johnson took to social media to share a statement about his decision to transfer. He thanked the Nebraska faithful before confirming he’s planning to hit the portal.
“First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Johnson wrote. “I am deeply grateful to my coaches and teammates for making this experience one I will always cherish. Thank you to my friends, fans, and the Nebraska faithful for your unwavering support. These past couple years have been an unforgettable ride!
“After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, I have decided that it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal, with two years of eligibility remaining.”
Nebraska is heading to a bowl game for the first time since 2016 after ending the year with a 6-6 record. The Cornhuskers are preparing for some staff changes, though. Dana Holgorsen is officially coming in as offensive coordinator after taking over as play-caller toward the end of the year, and Marcus Satterfield will move to tight ends coach.
