Johnson put together three straight strong showings to close out the regular season. His biggest came against Wisconsin when he had 113 rushing yards and 85 receiving yards to help Nebraska get the victory to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016.

Johnson spent three years in Nebraska, but took a redshirt as a freshman in 2022. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Johnson took to social media to share a statement about his decision to transfer. He thanked the Nebraska faithful before confirming he’s planning to hit the portal.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Johnson wrote. “I am deeply grateful to my coaches and teammates for making this experience one I will always cherish. Thank you to my friends, fans, and the Nebraska faithful for your unwavering support. These past couple years have been an unforgettable ride!

“After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, I have decided that it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal, with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Nebraska is heading to a bowl game for the first time since 2016 after ending the year with a 6-6 record. The Cornhuskers are preparing for some staff changes, though. Dana Holgorsen is officially coming in as offensive coordinator after taking over as play-caller toward the end of the year, and Marcus Satterfield will move to tight ends coach.
