Jake Peetz isn’t ready to leave Sean McVay and the NFL just yet.

After reports surfaced that the former LSU offensive coordinator was abandoning his post as an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams for Matt Rhule’s staff at Nebraska, HuskerOnline is reporting Peetz is staying put.

“Jake Peetz was once thought to be a lock to join Matt Rhule’s coaching staff at Nebraska,” wrote Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline. “That is no longer the case, multiple sources told HuskerOnline.

“Peetz, an offensive assistant with the Los Angeles Rams, will remain in that role after considering a position at Nebraska, according to sources.”

Prior to joining McVay and the Rams, Peetz was with Rhule in Carolina as part of his Panthers coaching staff. While it seemed like a seamless fit for the offensive assistant to join Rhule at his next stop with the Cornhuskers, evidently Peetz is smitten by the NFL, wanting to remain in the league.

Nebraska expected to name Syracuse assistant Tony White as new defensive coordinator

While Jake Peetz won’t be joining them, Matt Rhule and Nebraska are looking toward the ACC for the future of their defense.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Cornhuskers are hiring Syracuse defensive coordinator Tony White to the same position as Rhule fills out his staff.

“Sources: Nebraska is hiring Syracuse DC Tony White as the school’s next defensive coordinator,” tweeted Thamel. “He runs a 3-3-5 defense and has emerged as one of the top ACC coordinators.”

Moreover, White has been at Syracuse since 2020, helping the Orange build their defense into one of the best in the conference. Prior, he spent time at Arizona State as the defensive coordinator for the Sun Devils.

Evidently, Rhule believes White can translate his expertise to the Cornhuskers, and the hire is something for fans to get excited about.
