Former Texas QB Casey Thompson commits to Nebraska
Former Texas quarterback Casey Thompson has committed to Nebraska University, he tells On3.
For the season, Thompson was 165-of-261 for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also threw five TD passes in a loss to Oklahoma and six in a loss to Kansas. Casey Thompson exited Texas with 2,422 career passing yards and 30 touchdowns. Thompson had just 29 passing attempts before this season at Texas. He also rushed for 210 yards and five TDs in his three seasons.
Coming out of Newcastle High School in Oklahoma, Thompson was a top quarterback prospect with 24 Division-I offers.
On December 19th, Thompson decided to enter the transfer portal. His decision came after quarterback Quinn Ewers, the On3 Consensus No. 1 recruit in the 2021 class, announced he intended to transfer from Ohio State to Texas on December 12. Ewers made it official on December 15, signing with the Longhorns.
The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
