Fred Hoiberg and Juwan Gary open up on his impressive performance in blowout victory vs. Minnesota
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (20-8 overall, 10-7 in Big Ten Conference) have been one of the most dominant teams in college basketball on their home floor. And they came out and showed that again on Sunday when they laced them up against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. They dominated Minnesota from start to finish, cruising to a 73-55 win. The Cornhuskers were propelled by an impressive performance from Juwan Gary, who stuffed the stat sheet in a number of different categories in 35 minutes of work.
Following the game, Hoiberg spoke with Jess Settles of The Big Ten Network about Gary’s performance.
“I love everything about the kid. He just comes to work every day. He’s a warrior. He does a little bit of everything. He’s one of the best glue guys in the country. He’s been working tirelessly on his shot,” Hoiberg began. “So, it’s good to see those three balls going in. He made his free throws tonight as well. Great finisher inside. He does everything for us on the other end. Just really proud of him for what he’s done, what he’s overcome. We’re gonna need him down the stretch.”
The last couple of games, Gary has been playing extremely well. Where’s his confidence been coming from? “It’s just something I’ve always had. My teammates look at me as a leader so I go out there every game, every practice with a mindset I’m gonna lead my team. It’s nothing special, man,” Gary began.
“I’m just a hard working player. Just go out there and make things happen. Like I tell everybody, I’m a dog out there. Whether I’m scoring 20 points a game or two points a game, but at the end of the day I’m gonna go 100 percent on the defensive end and give it everything I got on that court,” Gary finished.

Gary was hot from beyond-the-arc, connecting on four of his seven (57.1%) threes. He also drilled 7 of his 13 field goal attempts, stuffing the stat sheet with two assists and eight boards.
Gary and company helped Nebraska accomplish history
The Huskers have now rattled off four straight wins and they’ve got 20 regular season wins for just the seventh time in program history. That includes a remarkably dominant 17-1 record on their home floor, tying the school record for the most home wins in a single season.
Nebraska will have three more games to finish the regular season: Ohio State (February 29th), Rutgers (March 3rd), Michigan (March 10th).
