The Nebraska basketball team is hunting for every win it can get as the season quickly comes to a close, but one thing has remained a thorn in the side for the team. Playing on the road.

And thorn in the side might be putting it mildly. Nebraska has yet to win a road game in conference play.

“I think you look across the board it’s a lot of teams in this league,” coach Fred Hoiberg said. “One, we’re playing really good teams. When you look at, I think I saw it’s the lowest winning percentage in the last 50 years on the road in major college basketball.”

Nebraska has now lost each of its last two games, both on the road.

Unable to win on the road, the Cornhuskers have found it hard to string together any real winning streaks this season. The team won five straight from the end of non-conference play to the start of conference play, but that’s been it.

The longest winning streak in conference play has been just two games. Road issues are a killer.

“We’ve been right there in a couple,” Hoiberg pointed out. “We took Rutgers to overtime. We had a really good game. We had a chance to beat Illinois in overtime. So we’ve had two games we felt like if things would have rolled a little bit differently we’d find a way to win those.”

But Nebraska hasn’t won, so the Cornhuskers remain on the bubble, even if most analysts believe they’re safely on the right side of the bubble for now.

Still, a few road wins would go a long way toward shoring up the resume.

“Win a couple games we’re feeling a lot better about ourselves, but we didn’t. Now we’ve got to find a way to regroup,” Hoiberg said. “We’ve played more games than anybody in the league. Our schedule has not allowed for a lot of recovery or prep time, and we’ve got another short one to get ready for a good Michigan team that knocked off Wisconsin tonight. So we’ve got to get somehow, someway, dig in, get some energy, find a way to close out this really difficult stretch as far as a lot of games in a short amount of time.

“Then we get a little time to breathe, we get a week off heading into we finally get that bye week. It’s hard to win on the road in this league. We’ve got to find a way. We’ve got three opportunities left, and for us, for postseason opportunity we’re going to have to find a way to get a couple of these.”
