Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Gabe Ervin is excited. He’s excited about the upcoming 2023 season and the opportunity to run behind Nebraska’s revamped offensive line. During a recent press conference, Ervin could not contain his excitement as he discussed what he’s seen from the Cornhuskers’ offensive line that has him so eager to roll.

“They’ve (been) growing from day one from spring ball to now. That offensive line, Coach Raila does a great job finding the details for those guys each and every day on what they need to work on,” said Ervin. “And we’re just going to take off, man. I’m excited, I’m excited for this run game, (and) even this pass game. I’m excited to block for the ball (carrier) and run the ball. We’re going to be a good team going (into the) fall.”

Ervin, a redshirt sophomore, has been at Nebraska since the start of his collegiate career after the former three-star recruit was brought in as a part of former head coach Scott Frost’s 2021 recruiting class. The Buford, GA, native had an impressive start to his collegiate career in his freshman season with 37 rushing attempts for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, Nebraska’s offensive struggles last season greatly impacted everyone’s performance, including Ervin’s. In 2022 Ervin had just 20 rushing attempts for 94 yards.

After how last season finished, it’s more than understandable why he and the rest of the Nebraska offense would be excited to get back on the field. Ervin’s excitement might be hard to contain for too long. Good thing the college football season kickoff weekend is less than four months away.

Ervin has also seen a noticeable difference in the team since the coaching change. The Cornhuskers’ bruiser of a back detailed how the roster has bought into Matt Rhule‘s system throughout spring practice.

“As soon as the new coaching staff came into the office, we bought in,” Gabe Ervin explained. “You know, that was the main goal for us, we had to buy into the process because this new coaching staff is really experienced and they’ve dealt with a lot of NFL experience and so you have no choice but to buy in. If you want to be great and if you want to pursue your dreams to the NFL, you know, you’ve got to listen to them. And we have to buy into the process and we’re gonna take this thing to the fall and we’re gonna be a great team.”

Gabe Ervin has been incredibly excited about the new staff from the start. Back at the start of spring ball, Ervin praised the staff for how detail-orientated they are.

“This whole staff under Matt Rhule, they’re kind of detail-oriented,” Gabe Ervin said.

“They kind of remind me of my staff from high school. A lot of detail-oriented, focused on the details and willing to win. They’re really focused on building that winning culture and trying to find the details. Each and every day, trying to stack days to be the best team in the country.”
