Nebraska has a lot of interest and excitement about them going into this season. Greg McElroy expects them to justify it too with how they finish in 2024.

McElroy spoke about several potential concerns for teams, including the hype around the ‘Huskers, during an episode of ‘Always College Football’ on Monday. However, that energy in Lincoln isn’t too much of a concern for him as he thinks their expectations are set as high as they should be.

“I feel pretty good about it,” said McElroy. “Vegas does too. Vegas has in the past too. But I feel really good about the progress that they’re making.”

McElroy has felt good about Nebraska over the course of this offseason. He thinks they’re headed in the right direction and has them making a jump in their second season under Matt Rhule. With that for him will come the end of their seven-year streak of missing bowl games.

As he stated, Vegas is projecting that as well. Odds have the Cornhuskers with a win-total of 7.5 in 2024. Some might even think that’s too low of a figure with how their first two months set up before November.

Nebraska has gotten their hopes up before and been disappointed because of them. Even so, McElroy thinks that stops this season with where he stands on the Cornhuskers.

“I remain bullish on Nebraska. I will remain bullish on Nebraska,” said McElroy. “My expectations for them have not changed. I anticipated eight wins this year and a team that can be very dangerous when teeing it up against some of the best teams in the sport.”

Rhule provides timeline for decision on starting quarterback

Matt Rhule is getting close to announcing the starting quarterback for Nebraska’s season opener against UTEP.

Rhule told reporters after practice on Saturday that he plans to make a decision sometime in the coming week.

“I’ll probably be ready to name it at some point this week,” Rhule said. “We’ll go out and watch the tape and really look at a lot of different positions and sort of set, hey, here’s the depth we have going into the first game.”

It’s currently a three-man competition between Heinrich Haarberg, Dylan Raiola, and Daniel Kaelin for the job.

“I think we feel really confident in all the guys,” Rhule said said. “I think the thing that we have is we have three guys that we think can lead us to win. So, from that part, it’s hard. Can someone be more advanced than someone else at this point? Yes. The difficult part in it is you have one guy who’s played and you’ve seen him play. You know how hard it is to play. Then you have two guys who haven’t played yet in college. So that’s the unknown factor here. But all three guys have worked really hard, done a good job and I’m sure they’ll all continue to improve.”
