Huskers nab commitment from in-state OL Sam Sledge
One of the best in-state recruits in Nebraska’s 2023 class is staying home. Omaha (Neb.) Creighton Prep interior offensive lineman Sam Sledge has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Sledge, who is 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, announced his commitment to Nebraska on Sunday. He shared the news of his pledge on social media. Sledge was also offered by Miami of Ohio and Kansas. Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Iowa and Northwestern were also showing interest.
Sam Sledge excited to be a Husker
Sam Sledge was expected to commit to Nebraska, especially since his father also played offensive line for Nebraska.
“It’s so special,” Sledge told Husker Online. “I grew up a Husker fan. My dad played at Nebraska, and I always wanted to be a Husker. When I got the offer, I was so excited. I took a couple of weeks to make a decision, but it was the right decision after all.”
The commitment from Sledge gives the Huskers four pledges in the 2023 class. Sledge joins three-star offensive tackle Gunnar Gottula, three-star cornerback Dwight Bootle II and in-state tight end Benjamin Brahmer on the Huskers commit list. Sledge was part of the junior day group that was in Lincoln on Jan. 22, and he left Lincoln that day with an offer.

Sam Sledge is the first player in school history to be a four-year starter at Omaha Creighton Prep. He is the son of former Nebraska and All-Big Eight offensive lineman Bob Sledge.
Sledge began his high school career playing tight end but moved to the offensive line as a sophomore. He qualified for the state wrestling tournament both in 2021 and 2022.
He was recruited to Nebraska by offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.
Sledge said Husker head coach Scott Frost was “ecstatic” when he received word of his commitment.
