Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims went down with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter against Colorado.

Trailing 29-7, Sims rolled to his right and was chased down and hit as he threw the football. After the play, he came up limping.

It appeared Sims tried to walk it off, but immediately went back down to two knees.

At that point, Sims was nine-of-15 passing for 106 yards, one interception, two fumbles, 10 carries, 67 yards and one rushing touchdowns.

FOX sideline reporter Jenny Taft said it was an ankle injury for Sims as he was getting taped up on the sideline. Sims got up from the bench and started moving around and Taft reported he was getting ready to come back in the game.

While Sims was out, Heinrich Haarberg stepped in at quarterback and threw one incomplete pass. Immediately after, third-string quarterback Chubba Purdy came in and also threw an incomplete pass.

On the same drive, Haarberg came back in on fourth down but was hit as he threw and the Huskers turned it over on downs.

Sims was very hard on himself coming into Week 2. He threw three interceptions in a 13-10 loss to Minnesota Week 1.

Basically, Nebraska did it to itself leading into a showdown with Colorado.

“We just beat ourselves,” Sims said. “We just can’t beat ourselves. We had four turnovers, and any game you have four turnovers in is going to be a close one. So we’ve just got to protect the ball, and play our football.”

While the interceptions were rough, it wasn’t all bad from Sims against Minnesota. He did throw one touchdown, albeit off of a nearly broken trick play, and finished the game as Nebraska’s leading rusher and, for that, head coach Matt Rhule gave his QB1 some due credit.

“I thought he had some really good moments,” Rhule said regarding his quarterback, following the loss. “He had some key throws, especially in that two-minute drive moving us down the field. Obviously, he ran for over 100 yards. He was a dynamic threat in the zone read game.”
