Jeff Sims keeping focus on Minnesota game, despite excitement for Colorado rematch
In his first year at Nebraska after transferring in from Georgia Tech, quarterback Jeff Sims is excited to take on Colorado in September. However, Sims also wants to make sure that his focus is on Minnesota to open the season.
Sims explained that the rematch with Colorado is exciting but opening with a conference game against Minnesota needs to be Nebraska’s first concern.
“I’ve heard quite a bit about Colorado,” Jeff Sims said. “But we haven’t really focused on that game yet because, you know, we’ve still got to play Minnesota.”
Nebraska and Colorado are old rivals from their time in the Big 12 together and have played twice recently, in 2018 and 2019, with Colorado winning both games. So, there is pressure to get a win against a notably more interesting Colorado team that is currently being coached by Deion Sanders.
“So, we’ve still been having our focus on Minnesota and getting ready for camp and going into camp ready to attack.”
At the same time, Minnesota is a Big Ten West rival. The Golden Gophers have beaten the Cornhuskers four times in a row and a win in that game could set the tone for the Matt Rhule era in Lincoln.

Jeff Sims on how his game has evolved
Jeff Sims has grown a lot as a player during his time in college, but as he explained, his growth as a leader is one of the biggest ways he has grown during his career.
“I was a freshman coming straight out of high school and playing a team (Florida State) that I was committed to [originally] — In that game, I was just really blessed to be there. I was taking everything that I could and I just knew that I was proud of myself for being in that situation because that was something that I has dreamed of,” Sims told the Andy Staples On3 podcast.
“Georgia Tech taught me a lot. It taught me how I need to improve on my leadership, and how to handle adversity and how to overcome things.”
