Nebraska softball fans held their breath Thursday night as star pitcher Jordy Bahl left the season opener with an injury. It was her first game with the Cornhuskers after transferring from Oklahoma, but she lasted just 2.1 innings before her departure.

On Friday, Nebraska coach Rhonda Revelle provided an update on Bahl’s injury following an 8-0 run-rule loss to Washington in the Puerto Vallarta Classic. Revelle shared that Bahl has an injury in her left knee, which is her plant knee, per Abby Barmore of HuskerOnline. Nebraska is being, “conservative,” with the injury and the team will learn more upon returning home.

Bahl struggled in her first few innings as a Cornhusker, allowing four walks through 2.1 innings of work. She allowed one run before her departure, and two more came in after she left, meaning they were charged to her in the box score.

Bahl transferred to Nebraska from Oklahoma, where she put together two seasons as a standout pitcher for the Sooners and helped them to back-to-back national championships. She entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season and returned home to Nebraska for her junior season.

During her time at Oklahoma, Bahl won at least a share of the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year award in both seasons, and she earned conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2022. On the whole, she amassed a 44-2 record in the circle as a Sooner to go with 397 career strikeouts and a 0.97 ERA.

When Bahl committed to Nebraska, she made it clear the decision didn’t have anything to do with her time at Oklahoma. Quite simply, she wanted to return home, as she said in her announcement.

Bahl’s decision is also generating plenty of excitement around the Nebraska program, and head coach Rhonda Revelle said the move could have a major impact. Bringing in someone of Bahl’s pedigree was huge, especially after the Cornhuskers went 36-22 overall in 2023, including 13-10 in Big Ten play, to make the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

“The talent that Jordy brings from an athlete’s perspective is unmatched,” Revelle said in a press conference following Bahl’s announcement. “But I think you just heard the human being that we’re adding to this already really high-character team. The timing for her coming into this program, I think, is actually perfect. This culture is healthy. It’s really healthy. It’s vibrant. A lot of people have done a lot of work to get us here.

“We’ve had two really strong years on the field and you add an arm like Jordy Bahl with the returners that we have that have had a lot of success on the field. It’s an exciting time for Nebraska softball. It’s exciting time for our staff and those that get to take the field with her.”
