Juwan Gary ends half with one-handed, putback slam versus Rutgers
Juwan Gary has had himself some highlights during this season with Nebraska. Now, with a play that he made headed into halftime this evening against Rutgers, he may have one of his best of the year, if not the best.
The Cornhuskers just entered the half with a 37-25 lead over the Scarlet Knights. The margin reached that dozen after Gary came flying in off the wing, caught a miss from Brice Williams with one hand, and threw it back in with emphasis at the rim.
The play was so good that the program’s social media account went ahead and deemed it as the dunk of the year.
Gavin Griffiths came over to contest and try to block over the top of Williams’ fading attempt on the baseline. That decision to do so left Gary alone to come in untouched and make the impressive play at the rack.
Gary led the ‘Huskers at the half with 11 points, including the two from that finish. He did so by shooting 4-7 (57.1%), including a split of his two three-point attempts, while making both of his free throws. His five rebounds are second-most on the team behind only Josiah Allick with seven.
With that line, Gary is on pace for his usual statistics with averages of 11.9 points and six rebounds while shooting 51% from the field.
Gary has had his share of reel-worthy plays in his fifth campaign in total this season. This one is right near the top, though, in the midst of their final home game of the year that could keep Nebraska in the hunt for a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament with one game left afterward.

Five members of the football team participated, showing off their hops and elite dunking skills. Even Matt Rhule was involved, albeit as a prop.
However, Rhule nearly lost his head when RB Emmett Johnson very nearly completed a dunk while skying over his head coach. Johnson could not land the dunk, though.
The players involved in the dunk contest were 6-foot-6 TE Thomas Fidone II, 6-foot-5 QB Heinrich Haarberg, 6-foot DB Jeremiah Charles, and 6-foot-5 DL Kai Wallin along with Johnson, a 5-foot-11 running back.
Charles won the dunk contest with this sick throwdown, a between the legs slam.
The dunk contest seemed to enliven both the fans and the football players in attendance to watch it, a fun moment for all involved. It was a little bit of levity in between a crucial offseason period for the football team.
