Nebraska WR Marcus Washington declares for 2024 NFL draft
Nebraska receiver Marcus Washington has made his decision on the 2024 NFL draft. Washington will turn pro, he announced on Twitter on Saturday.
The senior suffered an injury halfway through the 2023 season and was considering seeking a waiver to return for one more year.
Marcus Washington played in six games this season, recording eight catches for 176 yards.
As a junior in 2022, Washington caught 31 passes for 471 yards and was named the Receiver of the Year for the Huskers.
Washington transferred to Nebraska after playing three seasons at Texas. He appeared in 31 games, making eight starts for the Longhorns.
Washington caught 25 passes for 366 yards and three touchdowns during his time with the Longhorns.
In his final season at Texas in 2021, Washington caught 18 passes for 277 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while playing in all 12 games, with seven starts.
Nebraska will miss Washington’s playmaking ability at receiver in Year 2 of the Matt Rhule era. Nebraska went 5-7 this season in Rhule’s first year. The Cornhuskers have now had seven consecutive losing seasons. They are bringing back some talented players and added a solid recruiting class. But they will also need some players to step up to improve on the 5-7 season.

Players will have the opportunity to solidify their draft stock at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from February 26 through March 4.
The three-day event will be broadcasted throughout the weekend on ESPN and NFL Network.
To be eligible for the NFL Draft, players must be at least three years removed from their final year of high school while having used up their collegiate eligibility. Underclassmen are able to request league approval to become eligible for the draft, as are players who have graduated prior to using up all of their collegiate eligibility.
Last season, 69 players were granted special eligibility for the 2023 NFL Draft. 13 underclassmen who had completed their college degrees were also deemed eligible to be selected.
The deadline to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft is on January 15. NFL teams will receive a full list of eligible players in the class on January 19.
