Matt Rhule evaluates how Jeff Sims operated offense during spring game
Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims has made an impression on head coach Matt Rhule and the rest of the Cornhuskers to make the quarterback competition something to watch come the summer.
Sims transferred in from Georgia Tech this offseason after starting games at three seasons, adding competition to the room with incumbent start Casey Thompson.
That is what he has done, and he had a very good performance Saturday in the team’s spring game. Rhule was pleased with how he operated the offense.
“I thought it was good,” Rhule said after the game. “Sometimes you know when you split guys up, guys sometimes have to plan a separate wide receiver position so it once or twice it looked like we struggled to get lined up for motion. I thought the motions, the checks. I thought all that. I didn’t see any bad checks that were out there. Jeff’s just really cool, calm out there. I like his demeanor and feel. He’s played a lot of football so I thought he looked pretty good.”
Rhule also said that his passing looked very good.
“It looked like it was on time,” Rhule said. “He’s a passer. He’s a passer who runs 4.4. He’s not a runner. who throws. He’s a passer. I think he does some things with his legs extending plays, had dead to rights on the one he spun out. That’s really what we’re looking for from him. Weren’t able to get the big, explosive play maybe that we wanted but hit the glance to glance to Marcus which was really good.
