Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule is going old school for his first fall camp as Huskers head coach, as in living in dorms.

Basically, Nebraska football will be isolated from the rest of campus as it’s going to be just players and coaches “sequestered,” as Rhule put it. But it might be a nice bonding experience for the team.

Rhule seems very excited about his first big plan for Nebraska football.

“We’re going old school, moving into the dorms on campus,” Rhule said. “Coaches too. No one’s living in their apartment for 12 days, two weeks, you know. Really grateful to housing for letting us do that. And we’re gonna move back on campus, we’re gonna build a team that will report the 30th. We’ll start the first practice the 31st and classes, start the 21st and get ready to play the 31st.”

Rhule really hammered down Nebraska getting together and making the most of the team camaraderie.

“I think it’s two weeks,” Rhule said of fall camp. “But it’s really important to me that we kind of get away and sequester and get back on campus. You know, in today’s society, sometimes you get pulled in all these different directions, right? But we’re doing what we do for each other as a team and we’re doing it for the University of Nebraska.

“So being on campus and being together, to me, is symbolic and I think it’d be fun, you know. There’s a lot of work to be done and so coaches players so you have all been sequestered together for a little bit. It’ll be good.”

Rhule said in May this team could win right away. How much Nebraska could win under Rhule in Year 1 remains to be seen.

“My history has been we never win the first year,” Rhule said. “I do feel like, I’ve told the seniors this, there’s such a good group of seniors that really want to win. So we’re trying to win, right? I’ve never not tried them and it’s just more like, well, the seniors weren’t really bought in and didn’t do what I was asking at Baylor, then I’m just gonna play the young guys.”

Rhule mentioned how his entire group, especially the veterans, are bought in on the 2023 campaign first and foremost.

“These guys love Nebraska and they want to win so badly,” Rhule said. “They have a chance to be the team that got back to a bowl game. So we’re gonna chase that … And even a guy like Jeff Sims you know he’s, he’s potentially a two-year player so I think we made the most of that.

“The big thing for me was just bringing in guys who I thought were really competitive. So there’d be a competitive toughness within the organization that matches some of the guys that are there.”
