With Colorado’s upset of TCU last weekend, the second game of Nebraska’s season got thrown under an unexpectedly large spotlight on a national scale.

Still, while that’s the case, Matt Rhule isn’t at all surprised by the success of Coach Prime. He said as much during a press conference earlier this week. He sees Deion Sanders as a football coach at his very core which, if nothing else, is probably why he has found success at both of his collegiate stops so far.

“Coach Sanders is a football guy,” said Rhule. “While you can watch all these peripheral things? They show their practices, you can watch all this stuff on TV. At the end of the day, like, when has he ever not been serious about football? He has been a head coach now and he has won both places.”

From there, having the stars that Sanders has in Boulder didn’t hurt his chances to have success early in Rhule’s opinion. After Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and several other Buffalo players stole the nation’s attention this past week, he knows they’re going to be a handful for the Cornhuskers on Saturday.

“They’ve got elite players,” said Rhule. “Elite skill players, elite players up and down the front. Anytime you’ve got a great quarterback, you’ve got a chance to win.”

For all the doubters that Sanders has had so far, Rhule doesn’t count himself among them. He is well aware of the fight that Nebraska will be in for against No. 22 Colorado and the bright lights that they’ll be playing under when they step onto Folsom Field tomorrow morning.

Nebraska is ‘in a good spot and they’re angry’

Colorado reached the highest peak of college football during week one. Meanwhile, Nebraska‘s debut performance was as heartbreaking as it gets.

Now, both teams meet for a week two clash that has intriguing implications for both sides. Colorado can continue its already Cinderella-esque season while Nebraska has a chance to right all of its wrongs by knocking off the hottest team in the country.

HuskerOnline’s Sean Callahan chatted with On3’s Andy Staples about what Matt Rhule is doing to get his team ready for a huge opportunity against Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.

“From a preparation standpoint, Nebraska is in a good spot heading into this game and they’re angry,” Callahan told Staples. “You can sense it. They’re being quiet around here, but guys are angry. You have Keyshawn Johnson calling them sorry and that they’re going to be boat-raced by Colorado.

“You know the team is seeing that. So how Rhule uses some of the critics as fuel?” said Callahan. “And also it’s a 10 a.m. game and I think that favors the road team. It’s hard to get a crowd going at 10 a.m..”

Kickoff between the Buffs and Huskers is set for noon ET (10 a.m. local) live on FOX with Colorado hosting as a 2.5-point favorite per Vegas Insider.
