Matt Rhule reveals knee injury for DeShon Singleton, uncertain on severity
Nebraska safety Deshon Singleton suffered a knee injury early in the first quarter against Michigan, coach Matt Rhule revealed postgame. Singleton went down on one of the first plays of the game after colliding with a Wolverines player and never returned.
At this time, Rhule is uncertain the severity of the injury, but doesn’t believe it to be season-ending.
“It was his knee,” the coach said. “He got cracked on the side and maybe his knee got stuck in the turf or something. I don’t know. He was in a lot of pain and was out. I don’t think it’s an ACL as of yet, but we’ll see. They’re gonna obviously do the tests and all those things.”
Singleton ranked fourth on the team with 19 tackles entering the game and also had one pass defended. With him set to go through tests, we’ll likely know more on the exact nature of the injury in the coming days.
Singleton came to Nebraska in 2022 as a JUCO transfer from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He mostly contributed as a member of the special teams unit, but has moved into a starting role this season.
His next opportunity to return to action will come in Week 6 when the Cornhuskers take on Illinois. That game will be played on Friday, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Deshon Singleton sit out with a short week to recover from the injury.

Matt Rhule reveals Luke Reimer taken to hospital before Michigan game
Singleton wasn’t the only Nebraska player dealing with injury. Linebacker Luke Reimer was taken to the hospital this morning from the team hotel after being injured earlier this week.
The senior was in a lot of pain at breakfast, before he was taken to the hospital, per Mitch Sherman of The Athletic. Following his team’s 45-7 loss to the Michigan Wolverines, Rhule spoke with the media on Reimer’s injury in his postgame press conference on Saturday night.
“Luke was not available for us today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Luke. He was unfortunately taken to the hospital this morning from the hotel, so we’re hoping that he’ll be ok. Expect him to be ok. But we’re just erring with abundance of caution for him,” Rhule said following the game.
“So, obviously, Luke was injured this week and just so you guys know, I never lie to you guys. He said, ‘I’m gonna be fine.’ And he just started having some yesterday and they said it was nothing. They gave him an antibiotic and the antibiotic didn’t heal it. So, they just wanted to rule out infections, MRSA, and all those things. I don’t have knowledge of it now, but that was a complete and total surprise to me this morning. It was actually at breakfast,” Rhule continued. The doctors came to me, and I said, ‘Listen, let’s get him to the hospital. Last thing I would want would be for something worse to happen.’
