Matt Rhule shares his current message to Nebraska recruits
Matt Rhule has made a statement early in his first several weeks as Nebraska’s head coach. After the Cornhuskers named him their new leader back at the end of November, he has hit the ground running since in Lincoln. Now, as he continues to build the foundation for his program, he has shared how he’s pitching it to recruits.
In an interview with JD PicKell at On3, Rhule broke down how he’s advertising Nebraska to the prospects they’re targeting. As far as a recruiting pitch, he says that, first and foremost, they’re a players first program that is solely focused on the success of their team both in the classroom and on the field.
“I think, if they come here, it’s a program that wakes up every day saying how can we make these guys better?,” stated Rhule. “I was in the NFL and I had guys coming to me from all different places. I’ve seen a lot of programs that say what can you do for the program? But our program is more about what can the program do for you?”
“It doesn’t mean we make it all about you. We’re going to hold you to a high standard. But we’re going to make sure you’re gonna be the best that you can be academically, athletically,” Rhule said. “We want our guys to graduate, we want our guys to have great jobs afterward, we want them to get Master’s degrees. We also want them to win championships, be All-Americans, play in the NFL. That’s all we care about.”

There’s a lot of excitement around the ‘Huskers after they finished last season at 4-8. They’re intrigued to move on from the Scott Frost era and to see how Rhule, a coach that has succeeded in college and has pro experience, can rebuild them.
In his return to the college ranks, though, this is the right slogan to go with. With no track record with the Cornhuskers yet, he has to engage targets with a vision. That’s why Rhule wants recruits to know that, if they come to Nebraska, it’s a place that has their best interest in mind.
“I’ve coached enough after ten years. I’m really only here for the players,” said Rhule. “So guys that want that? That want that love, that support but also that accountability and standard? This is the right place for them.”
