Mickey Joseph not expecting Trey Palmer to walk at Senior Day
Nebraska will play its final home game of the 2022 season on Saturday when it hosts Wisconsin on its annual Senior Day. One notable player who won’t participate in Senior Day is Trey Palmer, the team’s leading receiver.
Palmer is a junior who transferred in from LSU.
According to a report from Mitch Sherman of The Athletic, interim coach Mickey Joseph said “he’s not expecting wide receiver Trey Palmer to walk in Senior Day festivities this week.”
Palmer has racked up 58 catches for 831 yards and five touchdowns, though he’s been kept in check the last three weeks, tallying just 11 catches for 50 yards in that span as Nebraska has been forced to shuffle quarterbacks.
Though neither Joseph nor Palmer have announced the 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver’s plan going forward, not walking in Senior Day could be a possible indicator a return for another season with the Cornhuskers is in the cards.
Palmer spent three seasons at LSU prior to his transfer, where he racked up 41 catches for 458 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers.

No Senior Day for Trey Palmer, could Casey Thompson return?
Whether Trey Palmer walks on Senior Day or not, one thing that could make a significant difference right now for Nebraska is quarterback Casey Thompson‘s health.
Nebraska’s offense has really struggled since the veteran Texas transfer was knocked out of the lineup due to injury.
Joseph provided an update on Tuesday.
“Casey practiced today, he made some throws, so we’re still going to take him day-by-day and see how he feels on gameday,” Joseph said during his press conference previewing Wisconsin. “I expect him to be able to practice every day but we don’t know what volume he’ll be able to throw it.”
Joseph also confirmed Thompson has participated in the team’s live sessions at practice as well. He has missed the last two games after starting the first eight with 2,023 pass yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Nebraska is set to host Wisconsin Saturday at 12 p.m. ET with a broadcast on ESPN.
