Mike Sirianni explains his coaching style

In an attempt to shake up the coaching staff, Nebraska baseball coach Will Bolt made several changes. That included promoting Rob Childress to pitching coach and adding Mike Sirianni as an assistant to work with hitters and infielders.
As Sirianni is getting acclimated to his new team, he broke down his coaching style.
“You always got to have fun, you know, but you always got to compete,” Mike Sirianni said. “And, so, guys who are competing and getting after it every day, you can go to war with those guys every day.”
Mike Sirianni has been coaching college baseball for the last 13 seasons. The last four of those seasons he’s been an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with Wichita State. There, he helped put together some of the best recruiting classes in program history.
“So, you got to show up and get those guys in the right position to show up in compete every day,” Sirianni continued. “But the biggest thing, you’ve got to enjoy the process to compete and enjoy the process to win baseball games.”
Prior to going to Wichita State, Mike Sirianni was the head coach at Regis, leading the Division II school to its first winning season in five years.

“I am excited for Mike and his family to join us in Lincoln,” Bolt said. “Mike brings a wealth of experience and excellence both on the coaching and recruiting side of the game and will be a tremendous asset to our staff. He has coached and recruited some of the best players in the country, and I look forward to him joining the Husker baseball family.”
Mike Sirianni on why he accepted the Nebraska job
During his introductory press conference, Mike Sirianni explained why he took the Nebraska job.
“Nebraska’s always been a special place to me. My brother played here and stayed a little bit. And you know Iowa just right across the way a little bit. The tradition and the history of this place is unbelievable. But the coaching staff here was a huge piece of interest for me. Will Bolt and I played against each other and have recruited against each other; been at numerous events for 10-plus years,” Sirianni said.
“You talk about Will Bolt, Lance Harvel, and Rob Childress — the staff is unbelievable, as you guys know. Very similar backgrounds, very similar personalities, recruiting philosophies, and coaching philosophies. So it’s a no-brainer for my family and I. I’m super excited about the opportunity to work with such great people, and that’s the biggest priority for me and my family. And this kind of came about just (because of) our relationships of recruiting the same players year in and year out.”
