Myles Farmer suspended by Nebraska, Matt Rhule confirms
On Monday, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule announced defensive back Myles Farmer is suspended from the team.
“Myles was suspended to end the summer by us just for simple things, nothing major. Just some of our standards, and [he] was not a member of the [120-man fall camp roster],” Rhule said.
Farmer is entering his junior season with the Cornhuskers. Last season, Farmer started 11 games at safety, ranking second on the team with a career-high 73 tackles. He also added a tackle for loss, four pass breakups and one interception.
Farmer was a three-star prospect coming out of high school, according to On3 Industry Ratings. The 6-foot-3 safety was the No. 694 overall recruit in the Class of 2019. Rhule is unsure when Farmer will return.
“It’s just kind of day-by-day,” Rhule said of Farmer’s potential to return. “I love Myles. He’s a competitive kid. It’s so hard when you have a new coach and there have different standards than you’re used to, so I get that.
“We’ve been patient with a lot of guys. We’ll see what happens with Myles,” Rhule said. “The ball’s in his court. We’d love him to be here, but whatever he wants to do, I respect him as a man.”
Myles Farmer’s past incidents
This isn’t the first Farmer has made headlines for unfortunate circumstances, according to HuskerOnline’s Steven Sipple.
“In the early morning hours of Nov. 6, Lincoln police cited Farmer for DUI. Police stopped Farmer at around 12:30 a.m. near 10th and P Streets after Farmer failed to signal his turn, and the officer observed signs of impairment.

Battle at safety
Despite an impressive 2022 season, Farmer reportedly did not start in Nebraska’s Red-White Spring Game in April. While Farmer boasts immense strength, he is not Nebraska’s fastest option at safety. Nonetheless, the Cornhuskers do have limited choices.
Nebraska is already missing safety Marques Buford Jr., who started last season. Buford suffered a season-ending leg injury against Wisconsin last season and is unavailable for the start of preseason camp.
Other options to replace Farmer are transfer Corey Collier, DeShon Singleton, Isaac Gifford, and Omar Brown. With new defensive coordinator Tony White expected to utilize a 3-3-5 defense, Nebraska will need all the help it can find in the secondary.
The Cornhuskers’ fall camp will last until Aug. 20, when the team departs for Minneapolis to face off against Minnesota in their season opener.
