Nebraska baseball has made it official. Rob Childress is the Cornhuskers’ new pitching coach and Mike Sirianni will be the new hitting coach, Will Bolt announced Tuesday.

D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers first reported the pending moves last week, but it’s now a done deal. Childress has spent the last two years as Nebraska’s director of player development following 16 years as the head coach at Texas A&M. It’s his second stint in Lincoln after previously serving as an assistant coach with the Cornhuskers from 1998-2005.

“Nebraska is a special place, and my family and I couldn’t be happier to stay in Lincoln,” Childress said in a statement. “I can’t thank Coach Bolt enough for this opportunity. I’m excited to hit the ground running and ready to get to work with our players.”

Childress and Bolt have quite a connection, too. While Childress was at Texas A&M, Bolt served as his third base coach. Now, they’re working together again.

“I feel very fortunate to have Rob and his family remain in the Husker baseball family,” Bolt said. “The amount of baseball knowledge and experience he will contribute to our coaching staff and program will be an incredible asset for us. This is a grand slam hire for our program, and I couldn’t be prouder to have him represent Husker baseball.”

Sirianni is coming in from Wichita State, where he spent the last four years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He will work with the hitters and infielders at Nebraska, according to the announcement, and he expressed his excitement to join the Cornhuskers.

“My family and I are so excited for the opportunity to join such a storied program,” Sirianni said in a statement. “I’ve seen firsthand the excitement surrounding Husker baseball and understand the tremendous responsibility that comes with being a part of this staff. We are extremely honored and ready to get to work.”

Sirianni brings 13 years of experience with him to Nebraska, including time as the head coach at Division II Regis. An Iowa native, he played college baseball at Arkansas State as a starter in 2004 and 2005 after two years at Creighton.

“I am excited for Mike and his family to join us in Lincoln,” Bolt said. “Mike brings a wealth of experience and excellence both on the coaching and recruiting side of the game and will be a tremendous asset to our staff. He has coached and recruited some of the best players in the country, and I look forward to him joining the Husker baseball family.”
