Nebraska basketball injury updates: Fred Hoiberg addresses status of multiple Huskers
Ahead of their lone exhibition this weekend, Fred Hoiberg had the latest on two injuries for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Hoiberg had updates on both Sam Hoiberg and Andrew Morgan during a press conference on Thursday. He started with his son who, after spraining his ankle and rehabbing, is now dealing with a matter with his other foot that he has picked up while healing.
“So, Sam – he did not play in the scrimmage against Utah. We’re continuing to hold him out,” Hoiberg said. “He had a pretty good sprain on his ankle and the foot that’s bothering him now is the other foot because I think he overcompensated a little when he got back on the court.
“He healed quickly from the sprain but now his other foot is bothering him. So, just out of precaution, we’re keeping him off the floor right now.”
Sam Hoiberg is entering his fourth season with the ‘Huskers. In his last two years of appearances, he has posted 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 17 minutes over 55 games.

Morgan is then in concussion protocol for a hit that he took on Wednesday. He’ll now go through that procedure to get clearance but will likely not do so in time for Sunday.
“Andrew Morgan is in the concussion protocol. He had a pretty good collision in practice yesterday. Now he’s in the protocol to try to get whatever, however many steps it is now to get cleared,” Hoiberg continued. “Very doubtful that he’ll play this weekend but hopefully we’ll have him back for the opener.”
Morgan is in his first year at Nebraska after transferring in from North Dakota State. While with the Bison, he averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds on 57.9% shooting from the field. Per On3’s 2024 Top Transfer Portal Players, he was the No. 195 overall transfer this offseason. He came in alongside five other additions for the program.
Both Hoiberg and Morgan look to be out this weekend in the scrimmage against Grand Valley State. However, each could still be back in time a week later for the tip off to the season versus UT Rio Grand Valley.
