Kyle McCord, who entered the transfer portal on Monday after after going 11-1 in his first season as the starter at Ohio State, reportedly met with Nebraska coaches on Tuesday, according to Husker Online’s Steven Sipple.

The quarterback position was at times disastrous for Nebraska in 2023, and McCord would mark not only an upgrade in consistency, but also talent. The former five-star recruit completed 65.8% of his passes for 3170 yards, 24 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions in 12 games in 2023.

The Cornhuskers trio of quarterbacks combined to complete 52.1% of passes for 1631 yards, 10 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Ball security was a general issue for the group, as fumbles plagued them at various points, too.

McCord also brings an elite recruiting pedigree.

McCord played high school football at St. Joseph’s (Penn.) Preparatory School, where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 25 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
