Head coach Scott Frost is in need of a bounceback season, at least on the record book. While Nebraksa may have been in close contests each week, only getting three wins is not where fans expected the program to be this late in the Frost era.

Even so, there is thought this could be the year and get back over .500 for the first time since 2016. But sportsbooks may not totally be on board with this thought.

Las Vegas has released early point spreads for five games on Nebraska’s schedule, with the Cornhuskers being underdogs in all but one. An important old-school rivalry against Oklahoma is the only nonconference game listed, while crucial Big Ten games are on there as well.

Check out the entire list.

Optimism comes out of Lincoln, despite having the 3-9 record under Frost last season. The thought is an upgrade at quarterback with Casey Thompson will significantly help the offense after having struggled a year ago. Thompson put up eye-popping numbers for Texas last season and will want to do the same in 2022 for the Cornhuskers.

A place Thompson will have prior experience is when Oklahoma rolls into town in Week 3. Not only is he from the state but Thompson also faced off against the Sooners last season with Texas. Success came in the first half as well, even if Oklahoma ended up pulling out a win. Nebraska will be hoping Thompson can recreate the magic but emerge victorious this time.

Nebraska will get their season underway early, playing a Big Ten showdown against Northwestern in Week 0. The two will travel all the way to Ireland for the matchup, playing a rare college football game outside the United States. While the occasion is a big one, at the end of the day, it’s still a conference game and one the Cornhuskers will need to win.

The season will end after Thanksgiving, traveling to Iowa for one of the conference’s top rivalry matchups. For now, the Hawkeyes are just more than a field goal favorite but there are just under five months before the contest is played. Nebraska will be looking for their first win since 2014, a drought far too long.
