Nebraska introduced a tremendous honor for long time play-by-play voice Greg Sharpe this week. In a video released by the athletic program, the radio booth in the football stadium was named after him.

Sharpe announced his cancer diagnosis back in April of 2024 and said he would some time away from calling football and baseball games to deal with his treatment.

He was able to return to the radio booth this season for Nebraska football, battling through his diagnosis in inspiring fashion. You can see the new honor below.

Back in October, Sharpe said his next goal was to make his daughter’s wedding in February. He did so, fulfilling his promise.

Sharpe thanked his company and boss and revealed his coworkers and superiors are ready to support him through the best and worst of the journey, when he initially announced his diagnosis.

“Not to walk away yet but I’m certainly going to have some disruption in my life in the coming months and just wanted to share that with all of you,” Sharpe said. “And I know we’re coming up against the clock here but I’ve got a great relationship with God. And God has, he’s been with me a lot in the last couple of weeks and months. And he’s with me right now to make sure I can get through this. And I’m going to work that relationship hard in the coming weeks.

“They also tell you to set a goal, set something you want to attain and be a part of, and I’ll tell you, it’s gonna be easy to read and say this. I want to get this thing, I want to whip its butt and get myself ready for football because I think we’re gonna have a fabulous, fabulous football season around here in the fall. So we’ll end it with that. Thank you all for your support.”

Sharpe has been “The Voice of the Huskers” since 2008. He also previously served as the voice of Kansas State football and basketball from 1996-2002
